Job Summary

The role of the Senior Data Scientist (Global Supply Chain) is to provide analytic support to the Supply Chain organization through technical thought leadership and business engagement. This position will entail translating and executing analytics according to business requirements with a high focus on technical sustainability and efficiency.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop and implement sophisticated statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques to extract insights from supply chain data to improve service, efficiency, and cost.

Apply data science techniques to conduct root cause analysis and drive continuous improvement.

Analyze datasets from planning, production, and operations to improve the overall supply chain function.

Advance the development of internal data science capabilities within the supply chain organization, including artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications.

Conduct in-depth analysis of route schedules, load plans, historical activity, and customer trends to optimize routing efficiency and solution effectiveness.

Collaborate with key stakeholders in operations and IT to enhance the quality of analysis and data science capabilities across the supply chain.

Translate business needs and questions into analytic projects. Convert independent analytics into cohesive outputs for business consumption and answer ad hoc analytic questions as needed

Train business partners on how to interact with and leverage analytics.

Expected A r eas of Competence (i.e., knowledge, skills, and abilities)

  • Advanced Statistical Analysis: Proficiency in regression analysis, time series analysis, and hypothesis testing to analyze large amounts of data and derive meaningful insights.

  • Machine Learning: Strong foundation in supervised and unsupervised learning techniques to develop predictive models for demand forecasting, inventory optimization, and anomaly detection in supply chain processes. Knowledge of Multi-Echelon Inventory Optimization (MEIO) models, lane optimization, and other advanced analytics solutions specific to supply chain management.

  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in languages such as Python (including libraries like Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow etc.), R, and SQL for data manipulation and analysis.

  • Data Engineering: Collaboration skills with IT partners to ensure data quality, accessibility, and integration from various ERP/planning systems. Previous experience with Azure cloud platform.

  • Data Visualization: Expertise in developing interactive visualizations using Power BI/Tableau to effectively communicate complex business insights to stakeholders.

  • Business Acumen and Industry Knowledge: Understanding of supply chain processes, industry trends, and business goals to make data-driven decisions that align with organizational objectives.

  • Continuous Learning: Current with the latest advancements in supply chain analytics and data science techniques.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to present complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences within the organization.

  • Excellent understanding of foundational statistical methods such as exploratory data analysis, data visualization, and hypothesis testing

  • Comprehensive understanding of various types of analytics (Descriptive, Predictive, Prescriptive), methods (clustering, time series), and statistics (correlation and causation, mean, median, standard deviation, etc.)

  • Ability to provide principles and logic through analysis and data in fast-paced, rapidly changing business environment with tight deadlines.

Education/Experience Requi r ements

  • Minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, or a closely related field with a concentration in analytics, business intelligence, and/or data mining.

  • Preferred requirement of a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, or a closely related field with a concentration in analytics, business intelligence, and/or data mining.

  • More than five years of experience in computational statistics and data analysis.

  • Experience working in and/or supporting supply chain operations.

  • Knowledge of medical device industry preferred.
